ALITEX
With over 60 years of history, Alitex is the leading designer and manufacturer of aluminium framed greenhouses in the UK. Based at Torberry Farm in the rolling West Sussex countryside this family run business creates Victorian inspired glasshouses that are functional havens for plants and people alike.
The Alitex collection of greenhouses, atriums, orangeries and conservatories feature alongside a bespoke service for clients across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, South America, Russia and Australia. They offer a sense of place and purpose, regarded as structures of great elegance. Alitex's use of aluminium provides all the beauty of wood, is long lasting and robust and can stand the extremes of weather with minimal maintenance. The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew recognises the quality of Alitex's greenhouses with their officially endorsement in 2012.
Alitex launched its collaboration with The National Trust in 2006, and now offers a choice of eight glass houses inspired by original designs owned by the Trust seen at the likes of Avebury Manor, The Vyne, Sizergh Castle and Greys Court. There is a choice of six colours in the National Trust range or, for an additional cost, the option of choosing from a further thirteen colours from the Alitex palette, or a bespoke colour match of choice. For every sale of these glass houses, valuable income goes towards the upkeep of the Trust's many properties and gardens.
Since 1952 the Hall family has guided Alitex ahead of the crowd; established by Mark Hall and now in the capable hands of his son Tom. Its designs, with timeless aesthetic qualities of an original heritage structure, are supported with a high quality of service. Details are scrutinised in the shape and style of the narrow, elegant glazing bars, the strong construction of the spandrels and craftsmanship seen in the joints of the doors. Interiors are configured to accommodate any growing requirements from vegetables and fruits to alpines or cacti. Ventilation, irrigation, lighting, heating, blinds, specialist benching, propagators, cold frames and even seating for a quiet lunch can be configured into the plans creating the very best buoyant atmosphere for healthy plant growth.
Alitex appeals to garden enthusiasts, horticulturists, architects and important professional gardens such as RHS Wisley; public parks at Fulham Palace or Battersea Park; hotels that provide from their kitchen gardens such as Lime Wood and The Pigs; and even celebrities from Alan Titchmarsh to Mary Berry, Delia Smith and Sting.
